ESL Swisscom Hero League has decided to add also the classic eSport game Counter-Strike: Gobal Offensive to their pool of games for the summer season.
After the launch of Swisscom’s own esports league powered by the Electronic Sports League in 2018 with major esport titles as League of Legends, Hearthstone and Clash Royale, everyone was wondering where titles as FIFA and CS:GO had been left. Linked to the possible controversy of violent content not possible to be hosted to an under 16 or 18 years old audience. Nevertheless as of the official announcement on July 15, 2019, the Swiss league is launching a CS:GO league for the first time.
The launch forsees a qualifcation phase in two formats during the current season. In the first format contestants will have the opportunity to qualify for the Pro League by winning one of the four open qualifiers during the course of the next weeks. In the second format a temporary ladder will start from July 20 until Agust 18, 2019, in which the top four teams will be able to qualify for the season 2 together with the other four winners of the open qualifiers.
